NBC Nightly News Profiles Guardian Scholars, “Not Just Surviving, But Succeeding”

March 27, 2011
NBC reporter Miguel Almaguer interviews former foster youth supported by the Guardian Scholars program at San Francisco State University. The story profiles students such as Rosana Fajardo, the first in her family of nine to graduate high school. Rosana never thought college was an option until she heard about the program. Almaguer reports that the program is a “safety net, an extended family, for those who don’t have one.” The Guardian Scholars Program, launched with a grant from the Stuart Foundation, provides academic and personal support to foster youth pursuing a college education.
