Child Welfare
Working to create safety, stability and opportunity for our most vulnerable children.
We sit at an important juncture in child welfare. The emphasis and the practice has shifted from a rescue mentality to one of support, reunification and quality of life for kids and their families.
While this shift represents tremendous progress, there is still a lot of important work to be done. Kids on either end of the age spectrum present special challenges, from those requiring early intervention to older youth who grew up in foster care and have been largely left behind. All of these kids will require extra support to make a successful transition to adulthood.
Stuart Foundation's Child Welfare Program aims to ameliorate the system's impact on foster youth while building upon the progress that has been made in the field. We support organizations that offer innovative direct services to foster youth, as well as programs that further the federal child welfare system's goals of safety, permanency and wellbeing.
Because the field is so small and the need so great, we are uniquely positioned to help strengthen the child welfare system as it progresses toward the ultimate goal that we hold in common: ensuring that every child touched by the system not only survives, but thrives.
