Supporting teaching and learning in vibrant schools that help all children succeed.

The Stuart Foundation cares deeply about improving public schools so that all students have the knowledge, skills, and motivation they need to be ready for college, the workplace, and citizenship.  The health of families, our communities, our economy, and our democracy depend on a system of excellent public schools.

We are particularly committed to those schools that serve our neediest students.  And we believe that today’s schools must not only help students reach standards for learning but also support their social, emotional, and ethical development.

In our rapidly changing world, the mission of public schools has changed.  Schools must now make sure that all students master essential skills and knowledge, and become confident learners and thinkers.  At the same time, our schools are educating an increasingly diverse student population.  Meeting each student's needs requires excellent teaching and educational leadership.

A growing body of research is confirming what common sense tells us – that educators can make a profound difference in the educational success of their students.   And so we invest in policies and practices to promote a public education system that develops excellent educators and supports them in vibrant schools that educate students well.
